Baseball sweeps Saint Francis

The UPIKE Bears finished with a sweep against Saint Francis on Sunday, March 5, winning four games in a row.
The Bears hit well all weekend, but Matt Peterson was impossible to get out. Peterson went 6-7 at the plate on Saturday, March 3, with a homerun and a handful of singles. Other players behind him with multiple hit games were Jacob Alvarado, Luke Hartlage, and Jay Vincent.
“We are finally starting to gel together on the field. We are all good buddies off the field, but it takes a special connection to play for one another and know that you guys have each other’s backs,” said senior outfielder, Alec Barba.
Since the Bears didn’t lose any this week, they had four winning pitchers, starting with Aaron Hedgecock for game 1, Dalton Dahley for game 2, Bruce Bell for game 3, and Jake Hamilton for game 4 to lock the sweep.
Coach Stowers said, “This weekend was the best one so far for my hitters. They didn’t give away their at bats, and they had timely hits in big situations.”
While the UPIKE Baseball Bears are the underdogs in conference, they are ready to make a statement.
