Students light the stage on fire

On Thursday, Sept. 14, UPIKE Theatre staged a performance of The Farmers Lit the Fields on Fire. This was the first performance of the play state-side as the previous performances were held overseas in Scotland at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival. The play was written specifically for UPIKE theatre by Toronto playwright Michael Ross Albert and was directed by Kim Willard. Senior theatre student Allie Chaney said, “I thought the play was wonderful, and I felt as though the students represented the University wonderfully.” The student cast included Sarah Hackworth, Bethany Jervis, Dylan Martin, and Matt Conn. The student technical crew included Mackenzie Fraley, Audrey Caudill, Andrew Letscher and Alex Hoffman. All of these students are minoring in theatre at UPIKE. The play centered around the bitter relationship between two sisters, and how this relationship causes problems for one on her wedding day. The audience was left without a clear ending, with no clear picture as to who lived and who died. If you missed this production, UPIKE Theatre will perform Tennessee William’s The Glass Menagerie Sept. 21-23 at 7:30 p.m.
