UPIKE returns from Scotland, set to go to India, Belize

UPIKE is going to India and Belize, and recently returned from Scotland! Theatre students visited Scotland in August with Kim Willard, assistant professor or theatre. This successful trip was a precursor, as one of the three international trips the University of Pikeville study abroad program is sponsoring during the 2017-2018 school year. The other two groups of students and faculty members will travel to the remaining locations in Spring 2018. “Ten minutes in Belize and you will learn more about biology than you do all semester in a classroom,” Dr. Timothy Whittier, professor of biology, said when asked about the goals and intentions of these trips abroad. Whittier is the director of the study abroad program on campus, and he is also the Chair of Mathematics and Natural Sciences division. “The main benefit to studying abroad is that it, without fail, changes who you are. It changes the way you see the world, and thats the beauty of it. So, my question to students is, what is holding you back?” Whittier said.
