Wednesday, Sept. 14. Coach Jason Stowers resigned as the pitching coach and recruiting coordinator for the UPIKE baseball team.
Stowers joined University of Tennessee-Martin. A division 1 school in Tennessee. Stowers was one of the longest tenure coaches at UPIKE. He had many emotions about leaving but was excited about his new opportunity.
“I really appreciated my time at the University of Pikeville. I will miss the university and especially the people I met and the players I coached while I was there. It’s a truly special place for special people. I am forever grateful to Coach Staggs, Coach Gasman and Coach Pitt as they have aloud me to do what I love and have a passion for,” said Stowers. “The pitching staff is in good hands with leaders, such as Bryce Carden and AJ Carkner.”
“He is a great coach with a lot of knowledge of the game of baseball. As a team were losing a great leader that literally gave us everything he had,” Carkner said.
Pitt was excited for Coach Stowers but sad that UPIKE is losing such a great asset not only on but off the field.
“Not surprised he is going Division 1, with his worth ethic and knowledge about the game,” Pitt said.
