SGA holds post-homecoming meeting

The Student Government Association (SGA) held a bi-weekly meeting on Tuesday, Nov. 3 to discuss several matters but none as important as the election of a new vice president. Current vice president, Katie Halsey, is graduating in December 2015. President Collan McCoy nominated Andrea Akers to fill the vice president’s position. “Andrea is the current student activities director and has been with us since day one of freshman year. She’s already a huge part of SGA, and she deserves this more than anyone else due to the effort and hard work she puts into it,” McCoy said. Akers won the vote unanimously, 16-0, and will become the vice president under McCoy during the spring 2016 semester. Open Mic Night is coming around the corner, and it’s set for Tuesday, Nov. 16 in the student lounge. The Black Student Union will help to present Open Mic Night. “I’m excited to be involved in this event. This is a great start for us as a leadership group on campus and a chance to unite the campus as a whole. It’s a good opportunity to get yourself out there and be a part of something really special,” Cedric Hampton, vice president of the Black Student Union, said. The next Free Movie Night has been scheduled for Thursday, Nov. 19. The movie for this next event hasn’t been decided yet. There are multiple ways to vote for the new movie, via a Twitter poll, direct contact with SGA, and through a survey located at student services. SGA established a constitution committee and appointed Teddy Woods and Amber Mills to this committee. The current constitution was revised last spring. The idea behind this committee isn’t to revise the constitution every year, but to have people appointed to know the constitution of the SGA. The committee can make suggestions to add bylaws to the current constitution and will be able to answer any questions regarding the constitution itself. Haunted Hill was a successful event with approximately 91 attending. SGA would like to thank everyone who volunteered at the event. The Bumper Car event that was cancelled has been rescheduled for Wednesday, Dec. 9 (same day as the midnight breakfast and study day).
