On Wednesday, Nov. 4, the film and media arts program hosted the annual UPIKE U-Parodies competition at a special What’s Up Wednesday. Students made short parodies about different movies or popular television shows to submit to the U-Parodies competition.
There were many parodies entered into the contest. Videos that were entered spoofed different movies and shows such as “The Walking Dead,” The Lord of the Rings, and “Bear-TV News.”
Many of the groups had great videos, but “The Walking Dead” parody was the winner. Nickole Smith was one of the main actors in the parody.
“It was very fun being part of the parodies and getting to become a zombie and actually tackle Matt Logan. I honestly didn’t think our group would have won, but we did, and I am so glad,” said Smith.
The second place winner was The Lord of the Rings parody. The video consisted of Adrian Smith being “Hodo Hatfield” and going on an adventure. The group said that they put in a lot of time in the parody and was happy that the won second place.
Coming in third place was the very special Bear-TV newscast. The newscast included MaryAnn Fletcher, Jackson Hussey, and other students.
“I am very proud of my cast and crew for the completion of the UPIKE U-Parodies newscast. I feel as if we executed it in a professional but humorous manner. We even won the Student Success award, and as a prize we received a free pizza. I believe the students and faculty that attended this event thoroughly enjoyed it and are excited for next year’s event,” said Fletcher.
