The University of Pikeville’s men’s soccer team competed last week in the Mid-South Conference Soccer championships. The team traveled from UPIKE on Wednesday morning, Nov. 4, to Bowling Green.
After attending the conference banquet dinner, the men rested knowing they would have a tough game the following day. That evening, men’s goalkeeper, Tait Torstensen, was awarded with a selection in the all Mid-South Conference second team.
Their opponents in the opening round were number-one seeds and regular season conference champions, Campbellsville. The men’s team had lost 13-0 to the team in the previous week in the regular season. The men played Thursday, Nov. 5, in the heat of the day at noon with temperatures in the high 70’s making it tough conditions for the game. The men got off to a solid start before Campbellsville stepped up a gear. Number-one seed Campbellsville proved too strong, yet again, making it to the second round with a 10-0 win over UPIKE.
Dobbe Weverink, who was the only UPIKE player to have a shot on goal, said, “ The team started off well and stayed compact with clear orders. The other team was far too strong and just overpowered us.”
The season ended with a 2-11 record.
