Athlete spotlight: White, at a glance

Terrell White has had plenty of ups and downs in his football career. Born and raised in the Orlando area, White started playing at age 12 after a childhood friend introduced him to the sport.
Growing up a Seattle Seahawks fan and idolizing standout college players such as Tyrann Mathieu from LSU (now playing for the NFL’s Arizona Cardinals), White knew he wanted to apply the attitude and on-field ferocity that they had to his own career. However, it took a few years before White had an impact on the field. While originally slated at quarterback, and even playing receiver during his early career at Edgewater High School, he eventually found his stride playing safety, where he flourished throughout the rest of his high school career. After graduating, White signed with Northwest Mississippi Community College, a junior college, where he hoped his skills would allow him to be noticed by a major NCAA school.
After winning a bowl game his freshman year at Northwest MS, White learned that having a career in football isn’t as easy as just suiting up on the weekends. After graduating from junior college, he originally signed with University of Tennessee-Martin but then made the move to NAIA University of Pikeville where the junior now starts at free safety.
Outside of football, White lives a pretty normal life for a 21-year-old college student. He’s a communication major with aspirations of going into sports-management. He plays video games—typically Call of Duty—whenever he has spare time and enjoys hanging out with his friends.
His heart lies on the field, though, and this year is shaping up to be one of his most successful both on and off the field.
