Led by Katy Humphrey’s 166 (82-84) to finish tied for third overall and receive all-tournament team honors, the University of Pikeville women’s golf team had its best finish in a Mid-South Conference event, finishing third at the Blue Raider Classic on Tuesday, April 1 at the Lake Cumberland Golf Club.
UPIKE finished with a two-day team total of 721 (352-369) strokes to take third place behind winner Cumberlands (Ky.) at 674 (335-339) and second-place Lindsey Wilson (Ky.) with a score of 677 (340-337). Eight teams in all competed in the event which also serves as the MSC Spring Tournament.
“I am extremely proud of my team! We have been on the road the last six days playing golf, and I can’t think of a better group of girls to be with. We finished third in our tournament over the weekend, and today we gained some respect by finishing third in our conference! That is the first time this has been done in school history. I’m feeling extremely blessed tonight to be apart of not only a great team but an awesome group of girls as well,” Gregory said.
Veach finished behind Humphrey for UPIKE in 15th place overall with a score of 185 (93-92), while Brophy tied for 16th place after carding a 186.
