Baseball Bears fight but can’t finish

he Baseball Bears were swept this past weekend by the Campbellsville Tigers, but there was no shortage of effort by the Bears. All three games were close and the second game the Bears took it to extra innings.
Senior catcher Sean Ryan said, “I felt like we played well as a team overall, but just had a few key bad hops here and there and some hard hit balls that just didn’t find gaps.”
Senior pitcher Zak Sutherland threw a complete game in the opening loss Saturday, April 5. Sutherland gave up four runs on 12 hits in the 4-3 loss. Going into the ninth the Bears were down 4-2, but a solo homerun by junior catcher Cody Chagnon pulled the Bears to within one run. That was the only run they could muster as the next two batters flew out to end the game in a disappointing loss.
The second and third games of the series were play on Sunday. In the second game of the series, the Bears played well but couldn’t pull out the win. Logan Sales, sophomore relief pitcher, took the loss. He took the mound in the sixth inning with the game knotted at 5. He pitched five innings and gave up only one run but that was enough for Campbellsville to sneak away with the 6-5 win.
It looked good for the Bears in the sixth inning of the final game, coming into the inning with a 2-1 lead, but the Tigers rallied in the top half of the sixth. The way the final game ended put a cap on the feeling of disappointment this weekend. The Bears will be traveling to West Virginia Tech Tuesday, April 8, looking to get back on the winning path.
