Bears football sets the bar high

The Bear’s football team started its spring practice this past week and look to build team chemistry with individual drills and inter-squad scrimmages. The UPIKE football team posted the best record for the University in the last decade this fall, ending the season with a 7-4 record. The team struggled early in the season, but finished on a hot streak winning its last three out of four.
The team has been working hard in the weight room and on the field this spring to improve and reach a higher level. Offensive Coordinator Allan Holland is excited about the their experience and potential for the 2014 season.
“We have many returning starters that will give us the depth and experience that we need to be successful. We just have to stay focused and get better every day,” Holland said.
UPIKE returns quarterback A.J. Graham, much of the offensive line, and leading receiver Shawntez Johnson. On the other side of the ball, the Bears retain leading tackler John Dudley Hilton and the majority of the defensive secondary.
“With all of the guys we have returning on both sides of the ball we have a chance to be successful, and we are excited about improving day in and day out,” Holland said.
