The men’s soccer team is still winless in conference as it lost its last three conference games. During this stretch, the Bears played University of the Cumberlands, 12th ranked-Campbellsville University, and 9th-ranked Lindsey Wilson College. “I think we played better collectively with more heart but still struggle to find that finishing touch to put goals in the back of the net,” junior Shawn Ramos said. Against Cumberlands, the final score line was 2-0, but the score line doesn’t reflect how the men’s team performed. They battled for all 90 minutes of the game and almost found the back of the net. UPIKE held Campbellsville scoreless for the entire first half, and UPIKE almost took the lead with one great opportunity on goal. It wasn’t until the 55th minute that Campbellsville scored off a corner kick. The score line was 3-0, Campbellsville, but UPIKE sent a message to the conference saying they are here to contend. UPIKE struggled to get going early against Lindsey Wilson as they put two first half goals in to take a 2-0 halftime lead. It wasn’t until the 71st minute the game busted wide open for Lindsey Wilson. Compared to previous games against Lindsey Wilson, this was a strong performance by UPIKE. “Although we didn’t receive the results we’d hope for in all three games we played and fought for one another to gain respect,” sophomore Tyrone Haden said.
