On Saturday, Oct. 15, the University of Pikeville will be hosting a 5K Run/Walk in front of the Pikeville Exposition Center on Main Street. All Bears and community members are invited to participate in the 5K, which will begin and end in front of the Expo Center. The race will start at promptly 8:30 a.m.
This event, hosted by the University of Pikeville and directed by Kay Webb, first lady, is aimed at raising money for the Scholar House of Central Appalachia. This organization is an education program that also provides housing assistance and other resources to single parents to help them obtain a college degree.
“Kay Webb is very athletic and the whole family enjoys the races,” Charity Deel, special events coordinator, said.
Pre-registration for the 5K has already begun and ends Oct. 8, in which prices will differ. For all University of Pikeville students and youth, pre-registration fees will only be $10 per person. However, pre-registration fees for the community is $20, but will change to $25 if registering on site. All registration proceeds will be donated directly to the Scholar House.
Awards and prizes will be given to various participants as well. A mystery prize will be awarded to the runner with the most University of Pikeville school-spirited costume, so make sure to come prepared. Also, the top three male and female runners, top three student male and female runners, and top three male and female runners 40 years of age or older will be awarded.
