View from the Bridge: Figg’s POV

The college experience is something everyone looks forward to the minute they get their caps and gowns for high school graduation. I was one of those kids that was oh-so-happy for college and how much easier it would be compared to high school. Oh, how I was so wrong. The bad part of college isn’t the schoolwork, or how hard the classes are. You’re on your own and have to either learn to grow up, or fail. You have to do the work and have the motivation to wake up for class. Even worse is if you’re a college athlete. Not many people get that opportunity to play college ball. But, those who don’t will never realize the time sacrifice that it takes from you. In three years of college so far, that’s been the hardest thing for me. I wake up at 5 a.m. just to go practice. Then from there, I have to go straight to class, and some days, I barely have enough time to eat. It’s a love-hate kind of thing. Time management was a struggle at first. My first semester wasn’t the best really. But, going into my third year of college, I have got to say that even though I started hating school, now I really love it. I’ve had my struggles, but through football, the fraternity, and my friends, it’s gotten better, and I’ve come to not only call the University of Pikeville my school, but also my home.
