Upike Tennis Team goes 9-0

The women’s tennis University of Pikeville Bears won 9-0 against the Union Bulldogs on Sunday afternoon, Feb 28. The match lasted for about 5 hours and showed the effort this team has put into their game.
The Bears quickly stole the win with low scores from the other team. Mounia Sami and Acuña, playing for the number one doubles won 8-4 against Ellen Denham and Summer Manning. The second doubles was also won by the two freshmen, Cailee Marcum and Haley Justice, 8-6 against Aline Dalmedico and Erika Broady.
As for the singles, the two first players Acuña and Sami both won 6-2/6-1 against Manning and Denham respectively. The third player, Thais Bezerra, won 6-3/6-1 against Broady.
The fourth and fifth players, Justice and Marcum respectively won 6-2/6-0 and 6-4/6-1 against Dalmedico and Claire Kilmartin. As for the sixth player, Bryanna Schroers, she won by forfeit, both her single and doubles.
This team was also pleased to see a large number of people who gathered to watch this first home tennis match of the season.
As for the men’s team, they won with a tight score of 5-4 after Oriol Puig took the last win.
