On Saturday, Sept. 8, the University of Pikeville hosted its first Hip-Hop Comedy show. The show starred three men called the Free Daps. The group is known for touring the country promoting their style of comedy and improvising through hip-hop. Isaac Knox, Johnathan Hugo, and Fransisco Laboy began their career by freestyle rapping and turning their musical skills into comedy shows. The group has an authentic style and is known for entertaining in both Disney World and Universal Studios. The Free Daps entertained approximately 35 UPIKE students and local community members. Once the show began it was high energy and a one-of-a-kind experience. The group interacted with students by getting them involved. The Free Daps performed multiple skits throughout the show. Throughout the event, the students were asked to participate by answering question both on and off stage. The rappers made their own freestyle music out of the answer’s students provided and demonstrated their incredible skills. “The crowd was great, and we had a lot of fun,” Hugo Said.
