As the fall semester begins, the University of Pikeville has new faculty members on campus. A familiar face this year is criminal justice professor, Timothy Roberts. Roberts is a retired Pikeville police officer of 18 years. He is a Pike County native who graduated from Shelby Valley High School. Roberts is also a Pikeville College alumnus graduating with a Bachelor of Arts in criminal justice. He also has a Master of Science in criminal justice from the University of Cincinnati. Like many, Roberts did not know what he wanted to do with his degrees. After stumbling upon a part-time position in 2016, he gave teaching a shot for a little over a year before deciding to becoming a full-time professor. “Don’t be afraid to take a new path. Your new journey may take you places you would’ve never thought,” he said. Roberts’ office is located on the fourth floor of the Armington building in room 461. He is teaching multiple classes including Corrections, Community Corrections, Police Practices and Procedures, Community Policing, Ethics in Criminal Justice, Introduction to Criminal Justice, Investigative Functions in Law, Criminal Justice Forensics, and Police Practicum. He offers an open door between noon and 4 p.m. to all students interested in the criminal justice field.
