The Student Government Association (SGA) Senate election results were announced last Thursday, Sept. 20. The Senate consists of 17 overall positions, including class officers for each class and newly established Representative positions.
The elected officials are Freshman President Amari Matthews, Freshman Vice President Alannah Townsend, Sophomore President Amanda Back, Sophomore Vice President Samantha Cambron, Junior President Asleen Smith, Junior Vice President Emmett Kersey, Junior Secretary Jacqueline Pruitt, Senior President Emily Cook, Senior Vice President Leann Taylor, Senior Secretary Tori Breeding, Commuter Student Representative Courtney Bowman, Greek Life Representative Ted Allen, and Student Athlete Representative Zackary Hall.
“It gave me a great feeling of accomplishment that I can now help give the student body a better voice on campus,” Greek Life Rep. Allen said.
Allen decided to run for this position because during his freshman year, Greek life taught him the importance of brotherhood and that was a great way to make friends, so he wanted to help make sure that Greek life is well known on campus and represented in a good way. Allen also felt like it was a wonderful opportunity to join the SGA and to make a difference on campus while in SGA.
Senior President Cook loves to be involved within the school and loves politics in general. She hopes to bring positive change to the campus and also wants to give the students an opportunity to have better choices to make better changes for their campus.
“It’s a really great feeling that my fellow students elected me to represent the senior class,” Cook said.
There are four open positions left in the Senate that will be filled by interviews with the SGA Executive Board. These positions include: Freshman Class Secretary/Treasurer, Sophomore Class Secretary/Treasurer, International Student Representative, and Residential Assistant Representative. If you are interested in filling one of these positions, please contact SGA President Zakary Bray at zakarybray@upike.edu.
“I am excited to see the Senate grow with our new positions. I look forward to working with our newly elected Senate and seeing what they can bring to our organizaion as well as the student body,” Bray said.
The next SGA meeting will be held Oct. 2, in Armington 417 at 9 p.m.
