A little something new and something old was brought to the campus of the University of Pikeville this semester.
The first meeting of Merge on UPIKE’s campus took place earlier this semester. MERGE looks to replace the old 737 program that preceded it, ending its six-year run. Rob Musick, chaplain, oversaw the event that drew in a great number of people.
“MERGE is kind of like University Church. Students can come and engage in live worship with a band,” Musick said. “The students sit at tables face-to-face and can engage each other and make connections. They get a chance to sing, but also get a chance to read from the Bible.”
The program offers relevant topics for today’s generation, questions, and first steps into religion. It also engages students musically.
“If they want to sing or play an instrument, we have students doing that,” Musick added.
The student-led program is planning activities and engaging in communication with fellow students. The service was preceded by a worship service.
“It was a good way to open up the year with MERGE. It felt good going in and comin’ out,” junior Austin Helms said.
The future of MERGE and UPIKE looks to be encouraging, uplifting, inspiring. The service is also associated and being helped by the Trinity Harvest Church in Pikeville, Ky. If you want to come and join in the worship or help with nightly activities, students can come to Booth Auditorium every Wednesday at 9 p.m.
