Face Paint, glow sticks, and yoga mats made UPIKE’s first glow in the dark yoga, take back the night event. It was a huge success last Wednesday, April 25. The group filled the 7th floor of the HPE Building with a calm air that could make anyone ready for a nap. Rob Musick, Chaplain, opened with a short speech on speaking up against the social norms of staying quiet.
Take back the night is a national movement to raise awareness of sexual assault on college campuses. All of the shirts passed out were ti draw attention to the take back the night event. UPIKE’s version of #TakeBackTheNightEvent. Along with schools nationwide are helping students to speak up and quit being silent against sexual assault.
Sumer Bingham, assistant professor of religion, led the stretching. Bingham has five years of yoga experience. She will be offering yoga to all students next semester on Wednesday evenings. The sessions will be for anyone, from never having done yoga to experts.
“I started doing yoga in grad school and then offered it to students in a meditation group,” said Bingham.
