The softball team put on a lights-out performance in its home series against Cumberland (Tenn.), winning all four games.
In the first game of the series, a 4-run 5th inning made all the difference in the world for the Bears, taking a 2-run lead that gave them the cushion to get the win.
In the second game of the series, Jordan Gentry, junior, hit a homerun on the very first at bat for the Bears. That home run set the tone for the rest of the game, leading them to a 3-2 win.
Saturday, April 14, was the second day of the series for the Bears. The Bears pitched a shutout in the first game with a 2-0 win to go up 3-0 in the series.
In the second game, a 2-run 5th inning for the Bears gave them a 1-run lead, which held up for the 5-4 win, sweeping Cumberland.
“Great pitching, timely hitting, and solid defense. We know we’re a good team and can play with anyone we step on the field with. They have confidence in themselves and their teammates that someone is going to make a big play when we need it,” Head Coach Robert Staggs said.
