Women’s Tennis Falls 9-0 to Cumberland

The University of Pikeville women’s tennis team was blanked 9-0 by 19th-ranked Cumberland (Tenn.) on Saturday, March 31 at the Bob Amos Complex.
Samantha Fraser turned in a spirited performance at the No. 2 singles spot, but ultimately lost 1-6, 6-2, 1-0 (8) to Belen Salazar Yanez in what would be the Bears’ (4-5, 1-3 MSC) best chance at a win in the match.
The other five singles matches were won by Cumberland (9-7, 1-1 MSC) in straight sets, including three 6-0, 6-0 shutouts.
In doubles play, UPIKE’s top-seeded duo of Fraser and Andrea Hurtado fared the best in an 8-2 loss to Ainhoa Garrido and Marianela Landi. The second-seeded pair of Madison Daniels and Cailee Marcum won just one game in a 8-1 loss to Joana Bou and Stefanie Navaratnam, while Camila Agudelo and Emma Wonn were shut out 8-0 at the third seed.
