The Mid-South Conference tournament was held in Pikeville on March 2- March 5. The UPIKE Bears were the first seed of the conference tournament. Students and fans had a blast watching their fellow Bears play through the tournament. Some students who attended the game had a chance not to just watch, but to expand their knowledge in their field of work as well.
Students majoring in sports management at UPIKE found out what it was like to run a tournament, and how much time it really takes to prepare for a large tournament. One of the students that volunteered to see how much work it really took was Stephen Richardson. Richardson is a sophomore football player at UPIKE. Richardson is from Dallas, Ga., where he attended North Paulding High School.
“Working this tournament is totally different than I thought it would be,” said Richardson.
Richardson’s job was to watch the corner of the court to make sure that no one was trying to get on during any point of the game.
“This sure was an experience to remember,” said Richardson.
Communication and Film & Media Arts students also worked the tournament filming and announcing.
“It’s always a challenge trying to produce a high quality product for events like this, but this is exactly the kind of challenge Film & Media Arts students thrive on,” said Aaron Asbury, senior Film & Media Arts amd Communication student.
