This semester, senior Chris Figg is participating in the Frankfort Internship Program through the Association of Independent Kentucky Colleges and Universities (AIKCU). The Frankfort Internship Program is a paid internship that strives to enhance students’ academic, civic, and professional skills through internship experiences.
Participating students live, work, and study in Frankfort during the spring semester under AIKCU Intern Coordinator Richard Wilson. UPIKE students earn 15 credit hours during the program while they work 30 hours per week at their internship and also take two courses in the evenings.
Throughout his time here at UPIKE, Figg was involved in football, the COM Honor Society, and Delta Alpha Lambda Fraternity. He is currently interning for Capital Link Consultants, a lobbying firm in Frankfort.
“I am working on a spreadsheet of who’s running and who’s not going for re-election in the House and Senate. Overall, I am tracking three bills and have been going to committee meetings about the budget plan, new judiciary bills, and Medicare. I’ve been taking notes on them and sending them to all the partners at the firm. The bills I’m tracking are on power of attorney, personal property, and special purpose governmental entities,” Figg said.
Students interested in learning more about the program may contact Chandra Massner, associate professor of communication, at (606) 218-5004 or via email at cmassner@upike.edu.
“This is an incredible opportunity for students from all majors,” Massner said.
