What’s Up Wednesday’s (WUW) event on Nov. 1 presented students UPIKE U-Parodies and also served free pizza, popcorn, and candy.
U-Parodies started with a small U-Parody opening before beginning the parody videos. The order of the parody videos was: “Pikey,” “Usplit,” “Pikeville Park Boys,” “UPIKE It,” “Mediocre Things,” “The Fastest and Most Furious,” “Lock Up: UPIKE,” “It/Not,” “The Majorette,” “The Classroom,” and “UPIKE Horror Story.”
After viewing all the videos, Adrian Smith, FMA alumnus and a three-time winner of U-Parodies, talked about what he’s done since graduating while the judges were selecting the three winners for this year’s U-Parodies.
“The Classroom” won 1st place. Its creators were Travis Stamper, junior; Cory Fields, junior; and Zachary Meek, junior. They won a $150 Visa gift card.
“You can improve something last minute and still come out on top,” Stamper said.
“The Classroom” was filmed in one day, unscripted, and everything was original.
Second place went to “Mediocre Things” created by McKenna Bevins, junior, who won a $100 Visa gift card.
The 3rd place winner was “Pikeville Park Boys” created by Brendan Gibson, sophomore; Shadon Jones; sophomore; and Desean Brumfield, sophomore. They won a $50 Visa gift card.
All of this year’s U-Parodies will be uploaded to UPIKE’s Film and Media Arts YouTube page. So anyone who missed WUW on Nov. 1 will be able to see them online.
