The University of Pikeville women’s golf team traveled to StoneCrest Golf Course to secure a spot for the Fall Invite Championship. The team was led by freshman Boo Newsome as she put herself in contention to win the whole tournament. Newsome was in a playoff with Georgetown’s Baylee Salyers on the second day of the tournament until she ultimately edged her with a one stroke difference of 71. The team overall was boosted up, but only could take second in the team standings. Newsome was helped by performances by sophomore Adriane Mason, shooting an 77-81, finishing 5th, senior Lauren Vice, shooting an 85-80, finishing 8th, and sophomore Ashley Chaney, shooting an 89-84, finishing 14th. “Boo Newsome has only been golfing for five years now, and she has shown she is one of the best in our league as only a freshman. She is exciting to watch and I’m so happy her win that playoff,” said Vice.
