UPIKE Bears bowl over break

During the winter break, the University of Pikeville men’s bowling team went to Las Vegas Invitational where they placed 10th overall. Andrew Letscher placed 8th individually in the tournament, averaging 218 for 9 games. At the Las Vegas Collegiate Shootout, they we finished 4th as a team, Matthew Diamond finished 9th individually, averaging 224.1667 for 6 games. Matthew Cleary averaged 208.8333 for 6 games finishing 33rd individually followed by Josh Encarnasion who placed 34th individually, averaging 207.8333 for 6 games. The women’s bowling team bowled in two tournaments over the four-day period they were in Pennsylvania. On Dec. 28, 2016 with 1,064 pins, Jenna Coldiron took the individual title at the Roto Grip/Keystone Quaker Classic. By doing that, she game the UPIKE women’s team the momentum to win the team title as well in the Tier 1 event. Felicia Montecinos placed 10th, averaging 193.2 and Angel West placed 17th with an average of 184. On Dec. 30, the women’s team won the Lehigh Valley Classic. Coldiron finished 12th overall, while Karlee Evans finished 14th, and Megan Hedgespeth finished 15th; Christine Johnston also finished in the top 20 in 18th. On Jan. 14 and 15, the men’s team bowled in the Buckeye Baker Classic, where the placed 3rd out of 11. On Jan. 22, the women’s team finished 2nd at ISBPA Midwest Collegiate Classic. The second place finish broke the 5-tournamnet winning streak. The classic consisted of five team games on saturday with twenty Baker games Sunday.
