On Thursday, Oct. 28, the University of Pikeville held a pumpkin painting contest in the student lounge from 7-9 p.m. Kaitlyn Halsey, student life coordinator, hosted the pumpkin panting event, and all students were invited to join in the fun. The top three pumpkins were each given $10 Roasted gift cards as prizes. “I’ve been trying to plan activities for students that would be fun and be something they want to do,” Halsey said. All pumpkins, paint, glitter, and more were provided for the students. Everyone had two hours to prepare their pumpkins for judging. Approximately 15 students participated in the contest, as everyone’s artistic skills were put to the test. There were various pumpkin designs such as spider webs, Harry Potter, minions, sugar skulls, polka dots, glitter, etc. that were showcased. “I really enjoyed painting pumpkins with everyone, and I would love to do it again. It really got me in the fall spirit and really brought out my creativity,” said Katelyn Beard, student. The contest closed at 9 p.m. and all pumpkins were judged and set side by side for the students to pick up and take home. “I think the pumpkin painting contest went very well! The three winners were Reagan Bridge, Elisabeth Latham, and Mia Geatrex,” Halsey said.
