UPIKE celebrates Homecoming Week

The university has a full Homecoming week planned. Monday, Oct. 10, starts off Homecoming with a volleyball game against Johnson University at the UPIKE gym at 6 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 11 will have three events. First, beginning at 8 a.m. is the President’s Prayer Breakfast, which will be located in Booth Auditorium. Second is a Chapel Service held in the Meditation Chapel located in the Record Memorial Building. Guest speaker Jordan Maynard, class of 2014, will start at 11 a.m. Lastly, the Homecoming Court Dinner will be in the President’s Home from 6-7 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 12, UPIKE’s Got Talent will be on stage at 8 p.m. in Booth Auditorium. Thursday, Oct. 13 is Founders’ Day. The Founders’ Day picnic and games will be located in the Benefactors Plaza start at 11 a.m. The second event will be a ceremony honoring the Distinguished Educators Hall of Fame in Booth Auditorium which will be held at 6 p.m. Lastly, the Lighting of Campus will also be in the Benefactors Plaza at 8 p.m. Friday, Oct. 14, the university will hold the Installation of Burton J. Webb, Ph.D., 21st President, which will be in Booth Auditorium at 3 p.m. Following the ceremony, there will be two soccer games. Both UPIKE’S women’s and men’s games are against Life University. The games will be held at the Bob Amos Soccer Complex. The women’s game will begin at 6 p.m. The men’s game will follow at 8 p.m. Finally, “A Grand Night for Singing: Celebrating Broadway’s Greatest Hits” with Kelsa Webb will be held in Booth Auditorium at 7 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 15 will conclude Homecoming Week with several events. Registration for the “UPIKE Serves” 5K Walk/will be from 7:30-8:15 a.m., and the race will begin at 8:30 a.m. at the East Kentucky Expo Center, Main Street Plaza. For more information, you can visit www.upike.edu/5k The Art department is hosting an Artist In Residence Meet and Greet in the Weber Art Gallery from 9-11 a.m. A Literary Reading will be held by the English department starting at 9 a.m. in the Janice Ford Student Art Gallery. The Communication program hosts its 6th Annual Alumni Panel Discussion “What can I do with a COM Degree?” in Chrisman Auditorium at 10 a.m. A Tailgate and BearGrounds event will be at the Hambley Athletic Complex starting at 11:30 a.m. The UPIKE Alumni Association will present awards at 1 p.m. also at the Hambley Athletic Complex. The UPIKE Bears will face Cincinnati Christian University. The game kicks off at 1:30 p.m. Concluding Homecoming Week will be a semi-formal Homecoming Dance in Booth Auditorium starting at 9 p.m.
