Pikeville Museum to display Biblical Artifacts

The York House in the City of Pikeville is set to open a museum of Biblical artifacts in January 2017. In partnership with the City of Pikeville, Community Trust Bank, and UPIKE, the Dorsey Museum of Biblical Archaeology will have some artifacts from their collection in the exhibit. The 250 artifacts the museum will hold date back prior to 3,000 B.C. and will be displayed in historical context related to biblical records. The artifacts come from the Khirbet el-Maqatir excavation site in Israel. “It’s our job to be good storytellers of history. History is a story, but it’s a true story,” said exhibit director and president of the UPIKE Alumni Association, Tommy Chamberlin. “We want people to feel engaged and illuminated with biblical accounts in history.” Chamberlin also plans to decorate the exhibit in a biblical era setting to go along with the theme. UPIKE students are also being offered internships to help with the museum once it is up and running. Aside from just watching over artifacts, interns will learn more about the artifacts and their significance. To learn more about internship opportunities, please contact exhibit@upike.edu for more information.
