UPIKE welcomes new music professor

“Hard work beats talent when talent doesn’t work hard,” Jonathan Schott, the new music professor in the Humanities division said when asked to give some advice to students. Schott is from a small town in Dundee, Mich., where he studied at Mt. Pleasant Central University, and he finds his new home in Pikeville, Ky., quaint and attractive. Schott can play many different brass and string instruments, but he has excelled at piano since he was 6 years old. Schott still preforms every now and then. In fact, he has a trip planned to perform at Carnegie Hall in New York City. Schott strongly believes in the importance of education and the practice of life skills, so he wants to give as many students as possible that opportunity. Schott would like students to know that at the age of 26, it wasn’t long ago he was an undergraduate student. He was once in your shoes, and there are many opportunities out there waiting for you in the future. This is Schott’s first teaching position, and he is excited about growing the choir. He said he wants to revive the music major because currently only a minor is available. If you are interested in joining the choir, contact Schott by his email or stop by his office in Record 403. His office hours are 10a.m. to 11a.m. and 3p.m. to 4p.m. He does; however, welcome anyone who knocks on his door.
