Theater creates fun

Starting off the semester with a bang, students of the Acting I class were given the option to view a performance of Polka Dots at Jenny Wiley Theatre on Thursday, Sept 8. The class is required to attend five shows during the semester, and is welcome to volunteer in the production.
“I just want my kids to understand that they can do it. Hard work and dreams aren’t for those with a lot of money or connections. Talent is everywhere. It’s really enjoyable and looks great on a résumé,” Theatre Professor, Kim Willard, said.
Emphasizing that ordinary people are what make a production possible, she requires her students to have hands-on experience with theatre.
Among those in attendance, student Bethany Jervis, who is cast as Abigail in the upcoming production of The Crucible, saw the performance as inspiring.
“I’ve never acted for Jenny Wiley, but they’re very welcoming and watching the other actors made me excited to get started on The Crucible,” Jervis said.
The Crucible is to be performed from Sept. 29 – Oct. 1. Theatre students will receive credit for attending or volunteering. The performance is open to the public and offers student discounts.
