On Thursday, March 10, two students and two staff members from the financial aid office went to Frankfort to talk about why financial aid is so important to students. Billy Cochran, sophomore; Haley Damron, sophomore; Judy Bradley, director of student financial services; and Gary Collins, federal work-study coordinator, went to Frankfort to represent UPIKE in the AID4US Campaign. They were there to advocate for the same or a larger amount of financial aid for Kentucky schools as last year in the Senate budget. Last year, approximately $4 million of financial aid was channeled through UPIKE alone. Rep. Leslie Combs and Sen. Ray Jones greeted them. They invited the UPIKE representatives to watch a meeting of the Senate. During this session, Jones introduced them as his honored guests and talked about the importance of financial aid to students. “It was a breathtaking insight into a world much different than I had previously experienced, and it will continue to impact me for years to come,” Cochran said about the experience.
