The University of Pikeville baseball team will be in action this weekend as the Bears head down to North Carolina to open up the season against St. Andrews University. Ending last season with a record of 17-28, the Bears ended last year with a great run in the conference tournament despite not winning a single conference game all year until the tournament. The Bears look to get started right where they left off.
The Bears have a couple new players who will play a key role on the team throughout the year, Travis Haen and Justin Beatty. Haen and Beatty both had good careers at their junior colleges. They will be looked upon to contribute to the team in some way or another.
The Bears had a great fall under new Head Coach Jim Pitt in his first season as the Bears’ head coach. Pitt is looking to get this season under way with his players, looking forward to leading this team in the right direction with high expectations.
“I am looking forward to the new season and the start of a new year. I am looking forward to see how we progressed from last year,” senior closer Logan Sales said.
