UPIKE students blog for the Odyssey

Every day, seemingly for countless hours, college-aged people are scrolling and skimming through articles published by sites such as Buzzfeed. Ever heard of it? If you’re a human being in 2016, then chances are you have. How would you like to have what you write published by one of Buzzfeed’s biggest competitors? Fortunately for the students of UPIKE, there is a platform to do just that.
The Odyssey was founded by college students that were sick of all media being popularized or politicized to a corrupting degree. They wanted to get pertinent, real news out that the millennial generation would care to read.
What separates the Odyssey from most news sites is that there is no top-down hierarchy. This means that the writers choose their topics. There’s no dependence on editors to tell the writers what to write. This intellectual freedom creates a platform for news and opinions that is not biased and has no agenda.
The Odyssey presents an incredible opportunity for UPIKE students to have their voices heard and their writing published. The Odyssey is currently generating anywhere from 20 to 30 million views on an average day. It’s a great way to start a career in journalism and an unparalleled platform to have your voice heard by millions.
The student liaison at UPIKE is Chandler Pacheco, senior. Pacheco is an established and talented blogger and young journalist herself.
“Not only is it a platform to get published, but it’s a way to get their (writers’) voices out and heard by millions,” said Pacheco.
Anybody can do it. If you are interested in being a writer for the Odyssey and having your work published for millions to see, contact Pacheco at chandlerpacheco@bears.upike.edu.
