Greek Life aims for national affiliation

The Greek Exploratory Committee has received final approval from school officials to open the UPIKE campus to nationally affiliated Greek life. Greek Life Exploratory Committee members Cody Davis, Lauren McGuire, Andrea Akers, Demetrius Peavy, Emily White, MaryAnn Fletcher and Dave Covert, have been working to bring nationally affiliated Greek organizations to campus since the beginning of 2015. “We’re really excited about making the next steps to bring national Greek life here! The Greek population will grow from this and it’s going to have a great affect on our university,” co-chair Davis, a junior, said. The process began with needed approval from the Student Government Association. Next, a presentation was held for the Dean of Students. Continuing, the committee pitched the idea to Gov. Paul Patton. Last but not least, the process ended with the approval from the Board of Trustees. “Everyone is overjoyed to be fighting for national recognition. I know with the committee we have in charge, it can happen. I’m proud to be a part of a sorority here at UPIKE while we make history,” said Kay Campbell, junior. The committee will continue to meet in order to strive towards their goal of nationalization.
