0Staff Report
UPIKE’s Communication program is celebrating its first-ever Communication Week through Thursday, April 9. The program has an exciting line-up of events planned to introduce students to the field, explain the importance of the discipline, provide information on the major, and allow communication alumni, faculty, and students to interact.
Alumnus Larry Shaw, an entrepreneur and motivational speaker, spoke Tuesday, inspiring students to find their voice. Then, the program hosted a pub trivia night at Bank 253 with proceeds supporting autism.
Communication faculty members and seniors Danielle Smith and Alexis Vescovo presented “Voices of Reason” at noon in the Record conference room Wednesday, April 18, as they shared communication research findings.
Communication will host What’s Up Wednesday at 8 p.m., so students can “Meet the Voices of Communication” in the Student Lounge.
The week culminates with “Find Your Voice.” Alumnus Kyle Collier will speak in Chrisman Auditorium at 11 a.m. Collier, alumnus, is a producer at WYMT. He is the Communication Distinguished Alumni fot 2015.
“We hope students will attend a variety of communication events this week and celebrate human communication. Learn about our major or minor. Employers are always looking for candidates with effective oral and written communication skills, and a communication major or minor makes you marketable,” Chandra Massner, associate professor of communication, said.
