On Thursday night, Feb. 28, an event called, “The Dream Reborn” was held for a group of students to read poems and excerpts with inspirational quotes. The event was to show appreciation for Black History Month.
Devin Kidd, sophomore, said that he thought Ariq Skinner did a great job performing the Martin Luther King speech great. “It was right on point,” Kidd said. “All the speakers did an awesome job.”
Something that many people found interesting was when Rob Musick’s daughter, seven-year-old Mariah Musick read about the four little girls that died in the bombing on 16th street church, Birmingham, Ala. on Sept. 15, 1963. Musick did a great job showing that just because you are young it doesn’t mean you don’t know what is going on.
Miranda Johnson, sophomore, said she liked the event because the reading showed that you should never judge someone by their color. “Don’t judge me by the color of my skin, but the character of my being” was a quote that someone read, and it really stuck with her. Johnson said that she felt the event was great and showed her how important Black History Month really is.
