Bear’s Growl: Parking woes
0By Alisa Brooke Coleman
It’s always a great time to be a UPIKE Bear, unless you’re trying to find a place to park. With the recent “snowpocalypse,” complaints about parking emerged once again.
With snow covering the top floor of the parking garage, few vehicles, if any, could park there. And, with parking already being scarce, this made it more inconvenient for UPIKE commuters and other patrons of the parking garage.
The parking garage is used by not only college students and college faculty, but also by people who work in the city at banks, Pikeville Medical Center, hotels, and law offices.
With the construction of the new optometry school, street parking has become limited as well. The parking lot and some parking on the street of Hambley Boulevard are no longer available for students and faculty. Combined, those parking spaces easily total over 60 lost parking places.
The only solution UPIKE has given students is to park behind Hardee’s. With new records being set each fall in student attendance, something needs to be done.
UPIKE is bringing better opportunities in each year for their students. However, parking needs to be of their main concerns for the upcoming years.
