ACE program hosts communication workshop

Thursday, Feb. 12, the University of Pikeville’s ACE program hosted a workshop about communication between men and women. The communication professors spoke at the event. They came up with an activity and showed a short clip from the movie Break Up to show students a better understanding of an example of communication between men and women.
Students who attended the event were asked to complete a true or false “Sex Talk Quiz” to see how students felt about men and women. It showed what the opposite sex thinks of each other and the stereotypes they hold.
The professors talked about understanding gender and communication. Gender can influence how people feel, talk, or react. Most people don’t think that way though, as talked about at the event.
Some think that women are the talkers, when actually studies show that men are more likely to talk more than women in mixed group conversations.
The workshop demonstrated that to have a good relationship, you need to communicate, tell each other how you feel and don’t hold emotions back.
