Women’s basketball falls to Shawnee State

UPIKE women’s basketball posted a winning record last week as it faced three different teams at the Exposition Center in Pikeville, Ky.
Tuesday, Nov. 11, UPIKE faced Alice Lloyd. With a solid lead the entire game, UPIKE came out with the win, 109-75.
Thursday, the team took on Shawnee State for a more intense game. The Bears kept up with them the entire game but fell short, causing their first loss of the season, 62-71.
To conclude the week, UPIKE faced Georgetown on Saturday. This was a important game for the Bears. UPIKE pulled through with a win, 77-73.
Jamie Castle, freshman, said, “I can see improvement in each game that we play. I think our season will only get better from here.”
The starters this week consisted of Shakinah Gibson, Khalilah Quigley, Kayla Day, Kelah Eldridge, and Kandice Porter on Tuesday and Thursday. On Saturday, Castle started instead of Day.
The Bears currently have a record of 4-1.
Their next game is against St. Catherine College on Nov. 20.
