Men and Women’s bowling sweep Southern Collegiate Classic
0After playing six team games each, both the University of Pikeville men’s and women’s bowling teams were in first place at the tier-one Brunswick Southern Collegiate Classic.
On the women’s side, the Bears tallied 5,784 pins to lead the tournament over Webber International (Fla.) with a score of 5,657 and Lindenwood (Mo.) in third with a score of 5,621. Katelyn Simpson, junior, led the field averaging 213.7 through six games, while Brianna Larson came in fourth averaging 200.5.
The UPIKE men tallied 6,294 total pins to lead Morehead State in second with 6,241 and Ohio State in third with a score of 6,127. Individually, Francisco Gamero paced the Bears in fourth place overall with a total pin fall of 1,292, including a high game of 267 and average of 215.3. Michael Fonseca was close behind in seventh place and Zach Fylling and Lucas Hohnstein finished back-to-back in ninth and tenth place, respectively.
During day two of action, the Bears bowled 24 baker games. The teams bowled 12 two-game matches, where the winner of the two-game total earned 30 bonus pins. After 12 matches, the women led the field by 431 pins, over Lindenwood. Through 24 baker games, the UPIKE men paced the field with a total score of 11,312, including a high score of 509 in match eight. The Bears topped Morehead State in second with a score of 11,110 and McKendree with 11,102.
