Oct. 1, a group of students left for a mission trip to Cleveland, Ohio.
UPIKE students Sherre May, Collan McCoy, Kayla Gross, Maleena Little, James Alexander, and Tyler Carroll were accompanied by the campus chaplain, Rob Musick.
UPIKE Student Chaplain McCoy said, “The Cleveland trip was a great way to show the love of Jesus here in our own nation. We worked on a store at the mission organization that will help so many families with free clothes and food. We also met so many great inspirational and Godly people. My first inner-city mission trip is definitely one that I won’t forget.”
The students worked at the Nehemiah Mission of Cleveland. The Nehemiah Mission brings in smalls group to rebuild the city through their dedication works, and passionate love they have through Jesus Christ. The mission is based on the Nehemiah 1:11: “O Lord; let your ear be attentive to the prayer of your servant, and to the prayer of your servants who delight in revering your name. Give success to your servant today, and grant him mercy in the sight of this man!”
The UPIKE mission team helped paint some walls and ceilings.
Throughout five days in Cleveland, the students served God, and friendships were made.
Freshman Kayla Gross said, “Cleveland was my first mission trip, and the experience is one I wish everyone could get. I value every memory and lesson learned.”
Not only did the students bond with each other, but also they bonded with the people from the Nehemiah Mission.
Sophomore Maleena Little said, “It was an amazing opportunity to meet people near my age who are as passionate about missions as I am. I enjoyed seeing the life paths they were on and how that made them better servants!”
Sunday, Oct. 5, the group had attended three church services for communion. One of the churches was called Revolution 216 and took place at the Nehemiah Mission at noon.
