Bowling sweeps men’s and women’s titles at Southern Ky. Classic

The University of Pikeville men’s bowling team won its first event of the season, and the women’s team won its second straight as the Bears swept the team and individual championships at the Southern Kentucky Collegiate Classic.
The UPIKE men edged Lindenwood-Belleville (Ill.) by 124 pins with a total score of 7,261, while Mid-South Conference foe Campbellsville wrapped up third place with a total score of 6,936. Michael Fonseca gave the Bears an individual win as well after tallying 1,084 pins through five games including a high score of 267.
Jeff Blind, who bowled with the UPIKE junior-varsity team, which won its group as well, was the second individual finisher with a total pin fall of 1,057.
On the women’s side, it was UPIKE cruising to a team win, tallying 7,498 total pins to rout the nearest competition by 1,069. The Lynx finished second in the women’s standings as well with a total score of 6,429, and Bethel finished third with 6,427 points.
Karlee Evans picked up an individual win for the Bear women, knocking down 1,105 pins to finish as one of four bowlers, including three from UPIKE, to post at least 1,000 pins. Trista Flowers backed her up in second place overall with 1,086 points, while Lauren Eggleton, who won a team title with the JV team, took third place with 1,016 pins. Brianna Larson also made a top 5 finish with a score of 991.
UPIKE returns to the lanes on Oct. 18-19 at the Orange & Black Classic in Dayton, Ohio.
