English Department offers poetry reading

In honor of Homecoming weekend, the English honor society, Sigma Tau Delta, sponsored a poetry reading on Saturday, Sept. 20 in the Ford Student Art Gallery located in the Allara Library. The event was a way for alumni to share their work and for current students to have a greater understanding of what life is like as an established writer. This year’s alumni speaker was Audrey Naffziger.
Naffziger chose to read from her book, Desire to Stay. The selections included well-crafted poems that could spark interest in any reader. She portrayed everyday life in a way that was eloquent and captivating. In one of her pieces, she took a poem about the death of her beloved cat and created a haunting tale of a party gone wrong.
Her work was not only outstanding, but also very enlightening.
“The way she crafted her pieces was incredible. As a writer myself, her work was very inspiring and encouraging,” Jordyn Hale, a senior English major, said.
Overall, Naffziger’s work was motivating for the current English majors and enjoyable for everyone in attendance.
