Classes were not held on Good Friday at the UPIKE campus; however, there were several students who gathered to volunteer at the Community Egg Drop held at Bob Amos Park. UPIKE student volunteers agreed that their experience volunteering at the egg drop was not just work, but also a fun experience.
Students had specific jobs event, some included supervising children on the 25 inflatables, dressing as a character to meet and greet with children and volunteers helped with the distribution of candy as children redeemed the 40,000 eggs, dropped from a helicopter, for candy.
There was much excitement to go around at the event. It was definitely a good Friday.
“The smile on the little kids’ faces when they look around and notice that their favorite Disney character was in front of them. The kids may not ever get the chance to go to Disney World, so this was their Disney World experience brought to the Pikeville community. This is something that I am proud to be apart of,” said UPIKE student, Charl’e Fronto who was dressed as Minnie Mouse at the event.
“What a great opportunity for kids to just have a blast, cut wild, and be crazy,” said event organizer Joshua Huffman.
The event is a good time with a special message. The focus of the day was to let the community know the love of Christ in a fun and exciting manor that the kids and parents will both remember. The egg drop is hosted by Trinity Harvest Church as an outreach to show love to the community of Pikeville and surrounding areas. There are many other organizations and businesses that get involved to make the event possible.
