Mentalist entertains UPIKE
0By Mona Branham
Mentalist and hypnotist Rich Aimes and Marielle Aimes came and gave UPIKE students a mind-blowing experience on Monday night, April 14 in Booth. If you were amazed by the hypnotist during welcome week this past fall, your mind was blown again as students volunteered to have their minds read once more.
Rich and Marielle’s main goal is to entertain. They don’t call themselves psychics or claim to have supernatural powers. They do, however, use all five senses to make it appear they have a sixth sense, using no secret assistants or electronic communication devices as many do. They are trained, board-certified hypnotists and listed in Who’s Who of Magic. Aimes has been a performing mentalist for the past 15 years.
He mostly performs show at schools and colleges, about a hundred per year. They have been to other colleges in the state of Kentucky. The pair also do personal readings but charges about $200 per hour.
“This group was a good group to perform for,” Aimes said.
Knowing that he was helping people and entertaining people was something that Aimes was happy to do. People email him after the shows telling him that dreams do come true.
“I really enjoyed that they engaged the students onstage and everyone in the audience with their humor, timely topics, and mind blowing performance,” junior Aleshia Sykes said.
Aimes mentioned that he knew someone had just had a birthday and sophomore Haley Johnson stood up, and Aimes figured out Johnson’s lucky number.
“The mentalist was a lot of fun and kept you wondering the whole time, and as much as I tried to figure out his tricks, it was impossible. That’s what made the show interesting and fun!” Johnson said.
