UPIKE hosts Chautauqua

On Thursday, April 3, the University of Pikeville hosted a Chautauqua presentation of Rosemary Clooney. Bet Stewart from the Kentucky Humanities Council played the character of Rosemary Clooney and did an interpretation of Clooney’s life through song and acting.
Stewart started off describing Clooney’s life as a small child through adulthood and the obstacles she went through in order to reach stardom. The phenomenal acting from Stewart really set the mood and had the audience engaged the entire time.
“It was great to see members of the community come to campus to enjoy this star performance. Rosemary Clooney’s life was full of ups and downs, and the songs performed really told her tale,” Chandra Massner, associate professor of communication, said.
With the performance from Stewart the University of Pikeville got to really understand Rosemary Clooney as a person and a former Kentuckian. Performances like these help keep Kentucky history alive and keep people educated about their own community.
The performance was sponsored by the UPIKE Special Events committee. Prior to the performance, students from Petra Carroll’s art class and Massner’s desktop publishing class displayed posters in recognition of Black History and Women’s History months.
