FCA brings students closer to God

The Fellowship of Christian Athletes (FCA) meeting on Thursday, April 4, was a blessing. Elisha Justice was the speaker for the meeting and taught about a story in the Bible in Matthew 4.
“And Jesus, walking by the sea of Galilee, saw two brethren, Simon called Peter, and Andrew his brother, casting a net into the sea: for they were fishers. And he saith unto them, Follow me, and I will make you fishers of men. And they straightway left their nets, and followed him,” he read.
Justice placed emphasis on part of the verse that says, “Follow me, and I will make you fishers of men. And they straightway left their nets, and followed him.” He related this verse to his life and how he felt God calling him to preach although he was not positive if that’s what God was calling him to do.
He waited it out for a while, and at that time, he was playing basketball for the Louisville Cardinals and still felt God calling him to preach. At the championship of the Final Four, he realized that all of the stuff of this world means nothing without God and that his calling to preach and do what God is telling him to do is more important than playing basketball, even though that is something he has always dreamed of doing.
Justice took the leap of faith and decided to move back home to Pikeville, Ky., so that he would be able to preach in his Old Regular Baptist Church, where he was raised all of his life. Just like the verses in the Bible say, he left everything behind and followed after God and he couldn’t be happier. “Be a light in your everyday lives to everyone around us,” says Justice.
