University of Pikeville worships on the hill
0Last week, UPIKE celebrated Spirtual Emphasis Week with “Worship on the Hill” on Wednesday, Nov. 13. Students gathered in Booth Auditorium to learn about and cel- ebrate peace.
The UPIKE Choir started off the night by singing a few songs and inviting the crowd to join. While performing the upbeat song, “Home on that Rock,” the audience was standing and clapping.
Whitney May, junior, gave a testimony during the service of how God changed her life.
Stanley DeVoogd, development direc- tor for Christians for Peace in El Salvador(CRISPAZ), talked about the organization and peace in El Salvador. As El Salvador was in civil war in 1979, CRISPAZ was founded in 1984 to minister to the people of the country that were being affected by repression and violence. Impressed with the event was UPIKE junior Kristen Bullock.
“I’m glad that I attended Worship on the Hill because it gave me a different outlook on peace. It was interesting to learn about the CRISPAZ organization and people in El Salvador. It was nice to see so much student involvement with Spiritual Emphasis Week and the positivity it brought to campus,” said Bullock.
